Types of Body Piercings
We care about the holes we put in you; our piercers are members of The Association of Professional Piercers, dedicated to safe and happy piercings. We at Mom’s value your trust and continued relationships. Therefore we support our piercers going above and beyond concerning updated state regulations as well as maintaining at least minimum standards set forth by The APP.
All of our jewelry is biocompatible with your skin, making our white, yellow, and rose gold options as well as titanium and safe steel an excellent choice in quality and style.
Initial ear piercings, with the exception of Daith’s, are pierced with a straight post to ensure ample space for swelling while you heal. We highly recommend returning for a downsize (shorter post) to help expedite the healing process as well as comfortability 3-4 weeks after your initial piercing. If interested in a hoop, we encourage you to explain your hopes and dreams with our staff to allow for specific placement and long term jewelry suggestions. Soft tissue is done at an 18 gauge and cartilage at a 16 gauge unless specified.
Read information about piercing aftercare here.
Note that all initial piercings are performed with a straight post, except for Daith’s. Please let our staff know if your desired result is to be fitted with a ring.
Ear Piercings
Allowing your style all the fun and flexibility ear piercings tell the world who you are. A popular choice for both working professional and casual styles, ear piercings help accentuate that little something extra about you. Visit our studio to enjoy a fully curated jewelry choosing experience where we customize our approach to fit your every need. From Lobes to Helix’s and Daith’s to Conch’s and beyond, we are excited to help you every step of the way.
Earlobe
Lobe Piercing is the most prevalent type of piercing in the world. This classic option provides versatility in many styles, sizes, and statements. With its flexibility and space, lobes may be able to contain multiple piercings depending on anatomy and goals. We are able to accommodate a spread of options that will give your lobes the shine they need.
Helix
There are several kinds of helix piercings made along the outer cartilage of the ear. We may be able to accommodate many piercings along the same line depending on your preferences. This is a perfect combo for any pair of lobes. Heal times may take approximately 6 months for the initial piercing but can last upwards of 9 months.
Forward Helix
These piercings sit up toward the front top part of your ear where your head connects. Typically spaced between 1 to 3 in-a-row Forward Helix make a lovely addition to an area often taken for granted. It can bring a balance between lobe, tragus, and conch piercings as well as cast a landscape between facial and ear constellations. Typically used with straight posts, Forward Helix’s will have you saying, “I didn't feel a thing”.
Crest
This piercing resembles a “crest” of a wave through the curvature at the top of your ear. With the right anatomy, this jewelry will stand in the spotlight as it sits perfectly on top of your ear. Whether you decide on one or two, your piercer will help your curate the perfect jewelry to adorn your crest just like the ocean naturally compliments the land. When looking for your next unique piercing, this one is just on the horizon.
Flat
For those with accommodating upper cartilage real estate, recent industry experimentation has found that the flat part of a helix looks quite gorgeous when pierced. We are also able to accommodate larger pieces with plenty of charm and shine. These are normally performed between a 16 to 12 gauge straight post depending on the size of the piece, your anatomy, as well as end goals.
Conch
Conches can be found in the cavernous, mysterious part of your ear. With this spacious abundance conches are a beautiful option to bring sparkle where there has been darkness. Your piercer must look carefully at the shape of the ear to determine placement and quantity suggestions. Typical healing for this piercing runs between 4-6 months depending on circumstances.
Tragus
The mountainesque triangular terrain that jets out on its own is known as the tragus. From forward-facing to rugged exterior, pillowy, to tortilla chip-shaped, we are excited to accentuate this beauty. Accommodating 1 to 2 piercings is often attainable. From a subtle sparkle of glimmer to a gorgeous fitted hoop, we have everything you need to attain your dreams.
Daith
A recently popular choice, clients have been frequenting studios in hopes of freeing themselves of migraines. We at Mom’s want you to know we empathize with the pain you are feeling. Chronic pain can leave us reaching for a number of healing solutions. While we respect your journey, we also must explain we are not doctors and cannot claim to cure or diagnose our clients. We can, however, fit you with a fabulous piercing. Daith’s are placed alongside the ears’ innermost ridge. Daith piercings are created using a curved needle to allow a hoop to fit properly from the beginning until forevermore.
Rook
Done in a vertical alignment, Rook Piercings take the inner shelf of the ear and define it. Nestle toward the top inner ridge of your ear this is a great little spot to add a simple curved barbell or gem clustered arc to. Simple heal times of 4 to 6 months make this tiny secret a fun addition to the family. It's advisable to keep this piece from a lot of movement or rotation so as to not disturb the process. Initially done with a curved barbell after fully healing a circular ring is possible.
Facial Piercings
Facial piercings are an excellent way to brighten up your face like a sunny day. Want to take a step further and add a little something special to that beautiful smile? People worldwide are taking steps toward normalizing these adornments realizing creativity sparks the innovators of tomorrow.
Nostril
Nostril Piercings come second in terms of popularity after ear curations. Nose piercings also contribute to one's appearance and can make us feel more empowered than ever before. More common today than any other facial piercing, nostrils seek to help us breathe in the good that is around us. Whether your aesthetic is subtle or you're rocking an accent piece, nostrils can accommodate a wide variety of styles and occupancy. Initially done with a straight post for up to six months we recommend waiting to put a hoop in after your initial healing has occurred.
Septum
Commonly found in the sweet spot toward the center tip of the nostrils, The Septum lays perfectly centered above your lip. The channel extends through the septum to pave the way for hoops, circular barbells, or retainers (which must be flipped up before bed). A proper septum piercing will not go through the cartilage and instead through mucosal tissue, meaning a shorter time to heal averaging 2-4 months.
Eyebrow
Three-quarters toward the end of each brow can rest multiple curved barbells. This piercing is said to unlock future visions and help us see with our minds eye. Eyebrow piercings can help bridge your look from facial to ear piercings. Typically pierced with curved barbells it is possible to get fixed seam rings in eventually depending on size.
Bridge - must be 18+
As the name suggests, a Bridge Piercing is located toward the top on the nose's bridge, slightly below your third eye. 12+ gauge straight barbells are used in adornment for this type of piercing. This piercing is meant to open your third eye chakra and see into other worlds. With customizable options, Bridge Piercings make an excellent choice for those who have proper anatomy and don’t wear glasses.
Oral Piercings
Lip
Lip Piercings adorn the outer ridge along the lip line. Varying placements can change the name but they are essentially the same type of piercing. A straight post sits flat along the backside of your inner lip as you show off your new exciting gem or high polished top. Upper Lip Piercings are often called Monroe’s (sitting on either side) or those central to the Cupids Bow are called Philtrums (see below).
Philtrum
Directly nestled in the cupids bow, Philtrum Piercings are a lovely addition to anyone trying to get centered. Able to accommodate a threadless or threaded piece this piercing is thought to sit against a straight post that’s 16 to 12 gauge. Depending on anatomy we may be able to place medium to large or pieces in this space. With a heal time of 4 to 6 months, you can expect to return between 2 to 3 times for downsizes as the swelling subsides.
Tongue (18+ only)
Tongue piercings sit vertically through the center of your tongue. Generally, a simple gem or medium-sized bead sits atop your tongue while another bead or threaded disk holds the opposite end of the barbell in place. Tongues tend to heal on the faster side as they are immersed in wet mucosal tissue and heal in approximately 2 to 3 months. Due to Washington State Regulations, we are unable to perform this piercing under the age of 18, even with parental consent.
Navel, Surface Anchors, Surface Piercings
Navel (Belly Button Piercing)
The piercing is made through the belly button which has a heal time of 4 to 6 months. Navel piercings are also very common today with a history dating back to ancient Egypt. Opening channels from ancient times our solar plexus knows who we are and where we come from. A summertime favorite we recommend getting pierced six months before you're ready to show it off. Although it's never too late to know yourself. Pierced at a 14 gauge our jewelry is compatible with those of other reputable companies. A Floating Navel Piercing Might be recommended depending on your body’s needs.
Surface Anchor - Must be 18+
Surface Anchors are single-point piercings which are made on flat surfaces of the body. An anchor is placed slightly below the skin to secure the jeweled top. Unlike regular piercing, jewelry on the dermal is kept intact by the anchor instead of having both entry and exit points. This type of “microdermal” is more convenient than regular piercing because it can be placed on many flat surfaces of the body.
Surface Piercing - Must be 18+
Surface piercings are where there is both an entrance and exit to the piercing with a staple like piece of jewelry healing the channel. Two tops will be administered to either end of the post which can range from bezeled gems to a high shine disk. This typically rests in places like hips, chest center, collarbone, and lower nape of the neck.
Adult Piercings (18+)
Nipple
The part which is adorned focuses on the base of the nipple to accommodate swelling and long-term success. Inverted nipples require a consultation which can be done at the time of your appointment.
